In my last post i wrote about the negative momentum of fear. How hesitation can make it much harder to accomplish something.
But the same mechanisms are at work in every conversation.
I have a female friend at work. When we met the first time, we mocked each other, teased, made fun, etc. But we both liked it and had fun.
But then one day she said, we could try to be nice to each other for a change. And that was harder than we both expected. Even simply giving the other a nice smile was problem. I inevitably started to laugh. It just felt strange.
It is very important how you treat people in the beginning. Because this will determine how you treat them in the future. It gets harder and harder the longer you keep this attitude going. You learn it so to speak.
Once internalized, it takes a conscious effort to change it. And it will be hard and feel awkward. So be careful to make the right start. The rest will come automaticaly.
