Second glance?

I was once going to the cinema with some friends. We were standing at the passage to the auditoriums. I was wearing a completely blue pullover and was holding my ticket in my hands. Within a few minutes three people showed me their tickets.

From what I looked like they deduced what they thought who I am. Clothes and Posture can show people who you are. They judge you based on this. It gives a first impression which often goes unquestioned.

Usually people try to fit any further experiences into this first judgment. Only if it is too far off, this first impression will be readjusted. But this rarely happens. Because for them this would mean they can’t trust their own judgment.

When I sit in the PC-rooms dressed in jeans and t-shirt I get almost instantly noticed as a tutor. But when I put on nice, classy attire they usually turn to somebody else for help. To them a PC-tutor has to be not caring what he looks like and live in his own world. If my looks and outfit don’t fit into their stereotype of a “PC-freak” they don’t recognize me as one.

So be careful what you look like. It will define how you will be seen. And in the end who you are. Because you will be treated accordingly.
